Dr. James A. Kolstad was born and raised in Pembroke Pines, Florida; however, he has many relatives in Wisconsin as his parents grew up in Waukesha before moving to Florida for work purposes. Dr. Kolstad was raised well as he is a diehard Packers, Brewers and Bucks fan. Dr. Kolstad is married to his dental school classmate; Dr. Anna Kolstad, who grew up in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.
Dr. Kolstad’s educational background includes a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida; post graduate studies at Northwestern University, Chicago, Illinois; a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Marquette University School of Dentistry; a General Dental Fellowship in Eau Claire, Wisconsin; and in August, 2018, he graduated from the Orthodontic Residency program at Marquette University School of Dentistry.
Dr. Kolstad is a Board Certified orthodontist by the American Board of Orthodontics. He is the first of his orthodontic class to obtain this distinction. He is a certified Invisalign provider and is an active member in the American Dental Association, the Wisconsin Dental Association, the Waukesha County Dental Society, the American Association of Orthodontics, the Midwestern Society of Orthodontists, and the Wisconsin Society of Orthodontics. Over the years, he has voluntarily served in numerous leadership roles at both the local and national levels and is currently serving as a member of the Marquette University School of Dentistry Admissions Committee.
Dr. Kolstad has a professional yet down to earth demeanor that allows patients and staff to enjoy working with him. When Dr. Kolstad isn’t straightening teeth, he enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter. He also enjoys playing sports, traveling, and being outdoors. His love for the outdoors began at an early age while a member of the Boy Scouts of America. He earned his Eagle Scout Award, following in the footsteps of his grandfather who was an Eagle Scout and a Silver Buffalo Award recipient.
